Short Term Intervention
Our short-term solutions are designed to assess your child's needs and work towards agreed goals. We also provide training to parents and caregivers.
About Our Short-Term Support Package
Our short-term packages are designed to help children develop one or two core skills. They can also be used to see how your child responds to our Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) approach before committing to a long-term intervention programme, or to help provide evidence for Local Authority funding.
What help will my child get?
Depending on your child’s age, we will provide focused support in one of the following areas:
- Communication skills
- Independence with self-help skills (such as toilet training or eating)
- Social and/or play skills
- Managing fear/anxiety towards a specific situation (such as going to the hairdresser or babies crying)
- Specific learning, language or school skills
What does this look like in practice?
- Short-term support packages are usually home-based programmes
- Parents or caregivers are usually trained to teach/support their child with a specific target
- You will be assigned a case manager who will:
- Assess your child
- Design a tailor-made programme for them
- Train and support you (and others if required) to deliver the programme
- We host an initial six-hour workshop in which your child will be assessed and you will be taught the skills needed to help your child meet agreed targets.
- We provide three additional three-hour follow-up visits, during which your case manager will support you and ensure that your child is progressing well.
Your case manager will be available if you require any help and support in between workshops.
Specific-Support Modules
We offer a range of services tailored to meet the individual needs of autistic children.
Communication
Good communication is essential to improving a child’s quality of life and often reduces other behaviour difficulties. We can help teach your child to speak or to use pictures, object exchange or sign language. Our case managers will assess which communication system is best for your child and show you how to capture your child’s motivation.
Social Skills
We offer a structured programme to help your child learn how to make friends, play and develop other social skills. Our case managers will assess your child to find starting points and take a systematic approach to teaching skills such as toy play, sharing, conversation skills, group play and emotional regulation skills.
Behaviour
Our case managers will analyse why the behaviour of concern is occurring and show you how to teach your child an alternative way of getting their needs met. We can work with schools, nurseries and other family members to ensure consistency.
Eating
We can help your child with restrictive diets using techniques such as systematic desensitisation to increase food choices.
Transition
We can help prepare your child for the transition to nursery, school or senior school, establishing targets to work on at home and reducing anxiety around the transition.
Anxiety
We can assess your child and provide tools to help them manage their emotions.
Toilet Training
We offer training in various toilet training methods and can assess your child and family situation to determine the best method for you and your child.
