Our Family Services
Children and their families are at the heart of everything we do. We offer many services aimed at achieving a better quality of life for the whole family.
Our unique evidence-based services
At Child Autism UK, we offer several services that support autistic children and their families, including short and long-term intervention programmes, training, and a national hotline.
Our clinical team are here to help your child:
- increase their communication skills
- increase their self-help skills (such as toilet training, healthy eating habits)
- increase social skills and play skills
- decrease behaviour that is affecting their quality of life (such as anxiety or self-injury)
- increase specific learning, language or school skills
- transition successfully to nursery or school
Short and long-term programmes to suit your needs
Just as no child is the same, we realise that every family faces their own unique challenges. The level of support you need may depend on practical constraints, financial circumstances, or simply where you are with your child’s journey. We therefore offer two types of programmes:
- Short-Term Support (up to 4 months)
- Long-term Support (more than 4 months)
Which route is best for my child and my family?
Short-term Support | Long-term Support |
For when you want to help your child with one or two core skills over a summer holiday or a short-term period. | For when you’ve done extensive research about autism-support based on behaviour analysis (also known as ABA) and are 100% sure you’re ready to start with full support straight away. |
You like the sound of our services but would like to see how your child responds to the approach before looking into the Full Support option. | You have funding in place for a high level of support and/or an EHCP which states your child requires an “ABA programme”. |
For when you’re seeking Local Authority funding but need evidence that services based on behaviour analysis (also known as ABA) are right for your child. | You have already been running a full programme and are looking to change provider |
Families can often help their child with this option without the need to employ volunteers or tutors. | Families usually enlist additional support such as volunteers, tutors, school/nursery staff. We provide the training and support for all additional members of the child’s team including school/nursery staff. |
What Child Autism UK programmes offer
Autism support works best when the child is supported across all areas of life, e.g., home, school/nursery, and community. We achieve this by setting up a programme tailor-made to your child’s specific needs and then giving ongoing training and support to the key people in their lives.
Positive approach: Children learn best when they are having fun, so motivation and positive relationships are very important.
Teaching naturally: We teach across different environments, such as home and school. This allows children to develop new, generalised skills that they can use in various situations.
Family-oriented: Our case managers work with parents, siblings, and extended family members to include them as fully as possible.
Comprehensive curriculum: Our curriculum covers all aspects of your child’s life with particular emphasis on communication, language, play and social skills. Our programmes lead into or include National Curriculum targets as appropriate.
Tailor-made programmes: We teach functional skills that are immediately useful and/or can be built upon over time.
High supervision: Research indicates that a successful ABA programme requires a high level of supervision. Child Autism UK provide the family with workshops for at least one full day every six weeks.
Continuous monitoring: Your child’s progress will be continuously evaluated to ensure the best interventions are in place for every aspect of their development.
